Beginner coaching

New to it all? Let Coach Jen help you from start to finish. A patient, step-by-step plan takes you from your first workout to your first finish line, with a whole team behind you.

Total beginners

Athletes who did not own a bike have become Ironman finishers.

Step by step

Progress in pieces you can see, so confidence comes from real work.

A real team

Group rides, camps, and teammates cheering your first race.

25+ years

Jen has guided first-timers since 1999. They are her favorites.

Everyone on Team JHC started somewhere.

You do not need to be fit before you start, and you do not need fancy gear. Jen meets you exactly where you are, explains the why behind every workout, and builds your swim, bike, and run up in steps that never feel like a leap.

Along the way you learn the things nobody tells beginners: what to wear, how transitions work, how to fuel, and what race morning actually feels like. By start line day you will have practiced all of it, with the JHC community cheering you in.

Questions athletes ask

I have never done a triathlon. Can I really do this?
Yes. Jen has coached complete beginners to their first finish lines for 25+ years, including athletes who started without a bike.
How fit do I need to be to start?
Wherever you are today is the starting point. The plan is built from your current fitness, not someone else's.
What gear do I need for my first triathlon?
Less than you think. A working bike, running shoes, and swim goggles cover the start. Jen advises on anything else when it matters.
How do I get started with coaching?
Send an inquiry or book a consult. It is a relaxed conversation about your goals, and Jen takes it from there.
